if you download the openoffice.org suite, it comes with a powerpoint program (though it is not powerpoint, exactly, it still works the same)

i actually think openoffice has better consistancy between versions of powerpoint.
i did a presentation on a PC version of PowerPoint last semester, tested it on a MAC G5 before class, and then when we loaded it on the classroom's iBook, it was all fucked up. i've never had that problem with OO |

hmm, i would say open Impress itself first, and open the file from there. what is the extension on it?
i can try it on my computer if it is an issue.

My job requires me to maintain compatibility among nearly everything windows.. which means opening one of like twenty MS office 2003 programs and making it readable for someone else. Or saving it AS an office file and double checking (otherwise known as totally reformatting the code/text/graphics) to make sure everything is kosher.
You DO NOT want Office 2K3. Access, Excel, Infopath, Outlook, Powerpoint, Publisher, Word. Bleh, Office 97.. where'd you go, to?
